Upper School

By Mr. Chris Ames, Upper School Division Head

Dear Winston Family,

As the school year draws to a close, we find ourselves in a time of reflection, celebration, and transition. Students and teachers alike look back on months of hard work, challenges, and growth—and feel proud of how far they’ve come. Classrooms begin to empty, hallways quiet down, and daily routines give way to the excitement of summer. For some, it’s a bittersweet farewell to familiar faces and places; for others, it’s a milestone that opens doors to new opportunities and adventures. Whether it brings relief, joy, or nostalgia, the end of school marks both achievement and new beginnings.

On a more practical note, please be aware of the following U.S.-specific events and reminders for the month of May:

  • Friday, May 16 – Wednesday, May 21: Underclassmen Exams (½ days)
  • Saturday, May 18: Baccalaureate – 3:00 PM – Auditorium
  • Thursday, May 22: Final Day of School (½ day)
  • Thursday, May 22: Commencement – 7:00 PM – Auditorium

Please also remind your student that school-issued Chromebooks must be returned to the teacher of their final exam. Devices returned without the charger or case, or with damage, will incur fees.

If you’re looking to plan around the final exam schedule, click here for a document containing both the Senior Exam schedule and the exam blocks for grades 9–11.

Additionally, students who have not yet completed the required Health or Speech courses may register for one or both during our summer school sessions. Students in need of credit recovery should contact either myself or Will Jennings to get registration information and clarify next steps. Summer sessions run from June 2 through July 3.

From the Upstairs,

Chris Ames
