Position Description

This full-time position requires an individual who is skilled in teaching students with ADHD, dyslexia and related learning differences through multisensory and differentiated instruction. The classroom teacher is highly collaborative and committed to designing and adapting instruction to meet a range of student learning needs and interests. They are skilled in establishing strong relationships with students and provide effective and consistent communication with parents regarding students’ behaviors, academic concerns, and progress. The classroom teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing a self-contained instructional program that includes grade-level math, science, social studies, and English language arts, as well as the integration of social-emotional learning and sensory regulation. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, differentiated instruction for students, focusing on 21st century skills like collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving. 
  • Accommodate and meet the needs of a range of neurodivergent students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD/ADHD, and other executive functioning and processing challenges. 
  • Identify, select, modify, and create instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs, in collaboration with lower school teammates. 
  • Design, plan and implement curriculum that is grounded in research-based practices and responsive to students with diverse learning profiles. 
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum following best practices.
  • Use classroom management systems that are focused on students’ social emotional needs and self-regulation.
  • Create and cultivate a positive environment that encourages students to actively participate in their own learning.
  • Provide effective and consistent communication with parents and the school’s Student Support Team regarding students’ behaviors, academic progress, and social-emotional development.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, families, colleagues, and the community. 
  • Perform supervisory duties as assigned, attend and participate in professional learning opportunities, and/or engage in other school-related duties as appropriate.

 Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, special education, or related field required. 
  • Teaching certification preferred with certification in the Science of Reading (or coursework/professional learning toward certification)
  • Graduate degree or extensive graduate work in the field of Special Education or learning differences/neurodiversity is preferred. 
  • Minimum of 2-4 years classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching students with Learning Differences. 
  • Proficiency with technology, especially Google Suite and Schoology.
  • Strong work ethic, sense of humor, and commitment to continuous improvement and learning
  • Science of Teaching Reading certification required (or willingness to obtain)

The Winston School seeks a full-time Technology and Curriculum Integration Specialist to begin in the 2024-2025 school year. More specifically, we are seeking a versatile candidate who is passionate, detail oriented, and self-motivated.  The ideal candidate should have broad experience in academic technologies, innovative use of technology applications for meeting the needs of students with diverse learning needs, knowledge and agility in multiple platforms and hardware and information systems management, experience working alongside teachers to support technology integration, as well as a desire to work collaboratively with all members of the Winston community.  

The Technology and Curriculum Integration Specialist works closely with faculty and staff across our K-12 campus to deliver exceptional technology experiences grounded in design-thinking and guided by a growth mindset. Our school is a 1:1 device school utilizing Chromebooks and Google suite for learning and collaboration. Our ideal candidate has an exceptional knowledge of technology hardware software management, information systems maintenance, innovative, creative, and effective pedagogies in technology, digital citizenship, and research-based practices in technology integration.  Additionally, a passion for working with students is ideal and one or more degrees in educational technology, computer science, middle or secondary education, or related fields is desirable. 

It is expected that a successful candidate would: 

  • Manage, maintain, and oversee technology infrastructure, hardware and device maintenance, and effective technology use among all members of the community.
  • Assist teachers in using technology effectively for assessing student learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, innovative, and engaging learning experiences for all students. 
  • Model and promote digital citizenship and help to design and implement a comprehensive, research-driven curriculum in technology informed by ISTE national standards. 
  • Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for students in a progressive K-12 school. 
  • Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-engaged strategic plan at the school-wide and division levels.  
  • Support and work collaboratively with faculty and students to engage in extracurricular activities (i.e., Solar Club, ESports teams, etc.).  
  • Work alongside teachers as collaborator and colleague to manage the change and innovation process across all divisions in collaboration with administration and staff.
  • Guide teachers in designing and implementing technology-enhanced learning experiences emphasizing differentiation, higher-order thinking skills and processes, and mind-brain education (e.g., critical thinking, metacognition, and self-regulation). 
  • Show a willingness to contribute to the life of the school outside of the classroom, including, but not limited to, attendance at after-school events, committee membership, and extracurricular activities 
  • Perform additional duties as needed (serve on school-wide committees, advise a student club, design curriculum, etc.) 

In addition, an ideal candidate would possess the following personal qualities: 

  • Experience maintaining and managing a variety of digital tools and resources for teacher and student use in technology-rich learning environments, and troubleshooting basic software, hardware, and connectivity problems common in digital learning environments. 
 
  • Familiarity and experience with assistive technologies to support student learning (i.e., dictation, speech-to-text, AI) 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills. 
  • Admirable leadership skills and a desire to serve. 
  • Strong collaboration and organization skills. 
  • Openness to continuous improvement and professional development. 
  • A sense of humor, warmth of personality, and nurturing energy.

The classroom teacher is highly collaborative and committed to designing and adapting instruction to meet a range of student learning needs and interests. They are skilled in establishing strong relationships with students and provide effective and consistent communication with parents regarding students’ behaviors, academic concerns, and progress. 

The Upper School Spanish Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication in a second language, develops appreciation for Spanish culture, motivates students to utilize their skills for information and recreation, and develops strong vocabulary to inform both written and spoken Spanish.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach three (3) to five (5) courses and fulfill the role of an Upper School Advisor and potentially act as club supervisor.
  • Closely collaborate with Upper School faculty to support students, faculty, and families across the division.
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum following best practices.
  • Use classroom management systems that are focused on students’ social emotional needs. 
  • Provide a positive environment that encourages students to actively participate in their own learning.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, families, and colleagues and the community. 

 Preferred Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish / education, special education, or related field required. 
  • Graduate degree or extensive graduate work in the field of Special Education or learning disabilities preferred. 
  • Current teaching certification or the ability to obtain certification within an allotted time
  • Minimum of 2-4 years classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching students with Learning Differences preferred
  • Proficiency with technology, especially Google Suite.
  • Strong work ethic.
