4TH GRADE

Wade came to The Winston School in the middle of last year, which is not that unusual given the school's rolling admission policy. Making the decision to move a child during the middle of the year can definitely be scary and overwhelming for the student and their family.

"When you see your happy, smart kid struggling to get through their homework, see their confidence plummet, and their love of learning deteriorate, you do everything in our power to make it better."
-Lauren, parent of Wade

By the second day of Wade’s three day admission visit, he declared, “I’m going to Winston!” The small class size, calming supportive environment, and amazing faculty made the transition seamless. After only a couple of weeks, he came home excited to share that he loved math again and was even running for class president.

"There are not enough words to express how much Winston has done for him and our family already, in such a short time. He loves learning, is building new friendships, and working to his true potential!"

GRADE 8

When Savannah first came to Winston in Lower School she was very defeated when it came to school, and her biggest challenge was learning to read. She struggled in her first year of public school to acquire the skills to begin reading. At Winston, she has had smaller class sizes and much more one on one instruction, and began Take Flight in second grade with Dr. Sass. Take Flight has been such a blessing. She has learned how to decode words and then phrases, until now, she reads more confidently as her fluency increases.

"She has always had a love for books, however now she enjoys reading them. She has even created two stories with her Take Flight team that are creatively written and beautifully illustrated by the students."
-Allyson, parent of Savannah

After joining The Winston School Savannah went from not being willing to try or take the risk for fear of being wrong, to talking and sharing, building, and learning with other students. The sparkle and spunk of her personality came back, and she knew she was in a safe place to learn. She could make mistakes and learn from them without fear of being a failure. The teacher's ability to meet the students where they are and build from there, is what sets this school apart.

CLASS OF 2023

Skyler came to The Winston School in 6th grade searching for a smaller environment where she would benefit from more attention from the teachers and have an opportunity to really engage in the community. Like many current students, she knew almost immediately during her three-day visit that Winston was the school for her. At Winston she feels accepted for who she is and loves how fun and inclusive the students are.

Since joining the Winston community, Skyler has excelled creatively, academically and athletically. This includes discovering a passion for photography, earning college credit through the dual credit program, and serving as the captain of the swim team. These are just a few of her achievements during her time as a Winston student.

Skyler is also an accomplished adaptive-sports athlete and was named a 2022 U.S. Paralympics Track & Field High School All-American. Skyler graduated from The Winston School in May 2023. She will be a freshman at University of Arizona where she she has committed to compete as part of the elite Wildcats adaptive athletics team. This team is the largest and most successful collegiate-based program in the country and the third largest producer of Paralympians, another of Skyler's many goals. While at Arizona she will be enrolled in their honors program where she will be studying toward becoming a veterinarian.

"The teachers go above and beyond and will do just about anything to help you succeed. When I travel for competitions they provide videos, notes and support to make sure I stay on top of my academics while pursuing a life-long dream to represent the U.S. as a Paralympian."
